Day 32 - Winnipeg
"I am a fashion designer who feels that fashion design is bullshit," says Linda Lundström. She has made a success in the challenging North American fashion business by being different, just like the Swedish Finnish entrepreneur Peter Nygård who has fashion stores across the continent.
Linda Lundström has made a habit of doing things differently. She made her own clothes at age eight and now leads a $10.5 million clothing and design manufacturing company (Swedish Press CompanyFile Aug05) that employs 100 people in Toronto and that sells its collections through three flagship stores and 450 independent boutiques. Linda has her roots in Winnipeg where her parents and sister still live and where there is a thriving clothing industry. Linda Lundström's most famous design is the Laparka coat that has been sold in more than 125 000 copies and that has been inspired by the Laplanders around Jokkmokk in northern Sweden where her father has his roots.
