Day 48 - Nelson

Fahiun Lutheran Church, at NE County Road 74, three miles north and one mile east of Nelson (320-765-9500), is a white frame building with a tall, three-tiered steeple. On stained glass-windows above the main door is the inscription Sv. Ev.

Luth. Fahiun Kyrka. A sign in front of the church summarizes the history of the congregation, organized in 1871. The present church was constructed in 1885. The sanctuary has an altar painting (1909) by Grafström and symbolic Gothic- style stained-glass windows with Swedish inscriptions; the windows were added in 1912. A large cemetery with several Swedish inscriptions is adjacent to this lovely rural Minnesota church.
