Day 51 - Braham
Rice Lake Cemetery, west of Braham on the east side of State Highway 6 near County Road 4, is particularly lovely in late June or early July when the peonies are in bloom. The cemetery has a monument noting the site of the church in which the Rice Lake Swedish Lutheran congregation worshipped from 1879 until 1932, when the congregation merged with Braham Evangelical Lutheran, 905W. Central Drive (320-396-2755). Dr. Amandus Johnson, noted Swedish American scholar, was confirmed in the Rice Lake Church.
The Oscar Olson House, 309 Beechwood, was constructed in 1914 by Fred Soderberg, a local pharmacist. The large clapboard residence is an example of Colonial Revival design. Oscar Olson, a prominent banker and leader of Braham, lived in the house for more than fifty years.
